CHAIRMAN’S GREETING
Hello everyone! Congratulations on another great season! Northern California Boys gymnastics has never been better. Our athletes and coaches are proving that we are indeed among the very best in the country. Keep up the great work.
BOARD MEETING
The board met on 12 June to discuss many important issues for next season. The main focus of the meeting was the format for the State Championships and the qualifying procedure for this event. Two proposals were formulated that will be voted on at the fall general membership meeting. The board unanimously agrees that all Level 4 (formerly Class 7) athletes should qualify for the State Championships. Therefore, Level 4s will not participate in the designated qualification competition (formerly Zone Championships). Furthermore, Level 4 State will be held separately from the other levels. The board also decided to split the youngest age-group (7-9) for Level 5 (formerly Class 6) into three age-groups (7, 8, and 9 year-olds).
PROPOSAL # 1 ( QUALIFYING COMPETITION)
a) Instead of 4 Zone Championships, hold 2 League Championships (Pacific and Central Leagues to be determined by geographical locations) to be held one week prior to the Level 5-10 State Championships.
b) Levels 5,6,and 7 would compete in the League Championships.
c) Qualification to State Championships would be based on a percentage of the percentage of total athletes, similar to the regional qualifying procedure. In addition, to insure that no deserving athletes are left out, a gymnast would be assured qualification if he meets a set qualifying score at the League Championships: 53.00 (L5), 51.00 (L6), 50.00 (L7).
PROPOSAL # 2 (QUALIFYING SCORE)
d) No specific qualifying competition for State Championships ( no Zone or League Championships)
e) Each gymnast would need to meet a set qualifying score two times during the season, with at least one score achieved at a Northern California competition. The qualifying scores are as follows: 52.00 (L5), 50.00 (L6), 49.00 (L7).
f) In order to fill out the sessions for the State Championships, a "Cliffhanger Qualifier" (formerly Second Qualifier) will be held one week prior to L5-10 State, in conjunction with L4 State.
g) Competition results will need to be submitted, in electronic form, to the webmaster and state chairman, within 48 hours of the competition. State Championships qualifiers will be regularly updated on the NCBGA website. For out of state competitions,it is the coach’s responsibility to submit the results of their athletes.
h) Instead of having four zone reps, the board will maintain two "members at large" based on geographical considerations (pacific and central).
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
i) All Level 4,8,9, and 10 athletes will automatically qualify for State Championships.
j) The meet host must receive all L4,8,9,10 entries no later than 21 days prior to the State Championships.
k) The 2005 State Championships will be held 19-20 March 2005.
l) There will be six sessions TBD by 1 February.
m) Level 10 team award will be awarded separately for the two age-groups (14-15 and 16-18).
