Comments from the State Chairman, Vince Miller

a. Vince would like to thank the board for all their hard work this year and commend all the coaches for raising the standard of gymnastics in Northern California. There are many more clubs producing large, successful teams; helping NorCal to become a stronger presence in the Region and Nation.

b. There was a misunderstanding about ordering the awards banners for the team competitions. Vince apologized for them not being available but the banners will be mailed to the team champions as soon as they come in.

c. We have ordered new All Star Team competition tops for the Optional levels. They will now be a white top with black lettering.

Reports

d. Financial Report was not available due to the late availability of the bank statements. There will be a report submitted shortly and will be posted on the website.

e. Dan Wood- There are many concerns about meet information distribution and registration for championship competitions. There was discussion on possible on-line registration and ways to discourage the complacent actions of some in the Optional coaching community.

Motion: Hiroshi Fujimoto motions that Zone Reps are required to confirm athlete numbers for each club in their zone two weeks prior to Zone Championships.

Second: Jess Lopez

PASSED

Reports should be sent to the State Chair, Treasurer, and all Championship Meet Directors.

Motion: Zane Negrych motions all late entries to State Championships incur a $25 late fee per athlete.

Motion tabled to allow board to research appropriate late fee. Board will meet on May 18 prior to the Golf Tournament.

f. Michelle Telega- Zone 1 no news. Everything is going well.

g. Jesse Lopez- Zone 2 will be hosting the 2002 Senior Banquet and Golf Tournament at Twelve Bridges Golf Course. Tee time is set for 12:00 and dinner will be between 5-6. Golf is $95. Dinner is $35. Total for both is $130. Checks are payable to NCBGA and sent with player information to Jess care of Rising Starz Gymnastics. Please see enclosed flyer.

h. Eric Van der Meer- Zone 3 No news

i. Peter Jenkinson- Zone 4 No news

j. Hiroshi Fujimoto- Hawaii news: Invitational session has a $55 meet fee. Not the $81 fee for the Regional Championships. Please be sure all T-Shirt and other add-ons form is turned in for EACH athlete.

Service Award Nominations

l. Vince Miller nominates Eric Totman for all his hard work over the years and outstanding support he has given to Nor Cal this year. Second: Ron Bell

m. Dan Wood nominates Michelle Telega for all of her support this year. Second: Vince Miller

The award will be voted on by the general membership by mail ballot.

Class 7 Proposal: After much discussion and suggestions by the membership the Class 7’s State Championship participation and protocol issue is tabled. The Board will review many options and supply the membership with a proposal for vote in the General Membership Meeting in September. Any suggestions, comments, concerns should be sent to your Zone Rep.

Judging Concerns: There was much discussion about problems coaches are having with the judging panels. Coaches are strongly encouraged to attend the judges test to help them be more informed and prepared. Many coaches are concerned with the content and repercussions of talking to judges during and immediately following a competition. (i.e. changing scores)

Motion: Ted Woltz motions to have Start Values Flashed at Optional State Championships if it is allowed in the USAG Rules and Policies.

Second: Michelle Telega

PASSED

The Board will be researching legalities with USAG and also working on a proposal to allow coaches to inquire the construction of the Start Value. Please send comments to your Zone Rep before the next Board Meeting on May 18.

Motion to Adjourn: Steve Klots

Seconded: Ron Bell

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted
