OCTOBER 1998 NEWS LETTER

STATE CHAIRMAN - ERIC TOTMAN Phone / FAX: 925-456-8118 E-Mail: Totman@msn.com

Much has happened recently so please read the following important bullets of information and pass this information on to others in your club.

STATE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Barry Pruett has been awarded the NCBGA Board position of State Technical Director. I believe that Barry will do a great job not only as our technical director, but also as an active NCBGA Board member. Thanks Barry!

REGION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP UP DATE

The date has been changed to Tuesday, April 6th-Friday, April 9th. The

schedule will be:

- Tuesday, April 6th - Elite - IV

- Wednesday, April 7th - Class V

- Thursday, April 8th - Class VI

- Friday, April 9th - Class - VII Invitational

Yes, Class VII's can participate in a Region 1 Invitational. . . .an event and experience they will remember for a life time. There will be no qualification for Class VII's to attend. Qualification for compulsory gymnasts to Region 1 Championships will be the same as in the past couple of years. Nor Cal will have a certain number of gymnasts qualify based on the percentage of athletes we have compared to the other states in our region. Gymnasts who do not qualify, will be in an over-flow invitation session. All gymnasts will compete.

Travel packages should be finalized by Thanksgiving. The entry fee will be $60.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

State Championships will take place at Technique Gymnastics on the weekend of March 20-21. The entry fee will be $40.

2nd QUALIFIER TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

There will be no 2nd Qualifier this year. I propose, upon board approval, that at Zone Championships we qualify gymnasts onto State Championships the same way we qualify gymnasts from State Championships to Region 1 Championships based on a percentage of how many athletes a Zone has at each level compared to how many gymnasts are at each level in our State. Qualifying gymnasts this way will insure that the same amount of gymnasts will participate at State Championships as in past years, at the same time allowing larger Zones to qualify more athletes.

ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS

I have not yet received any bids for any Zone Championships. Please work with your Zone Representative to finalize sites.

NCBGA WEB SITE

If you have not checked out our www.ncbga.com yet, please do so. There must be a gymnast in your club who can print out updates as they occur for you if you do not have access to the web. This is the first, and easiest, place for me to update pertinent information. I would like to get the "Upcoming Events" page and the "Classified" section more informative, so if you are looking for a job, looking for a coach, want to sell a piece of equipment, or if you want to run an advertisement on your competition, just send a $20 check to Eric, made out to NCBGA, along with your advertisement.

If you or your club has a web site or E-mail address please let me know so I can place a link from our web site to it. Anyone in the world will be able to connect directly from our web site to your web site or E-mail address.

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or bright ideas.

Sincerely,

Eric Totman
