Safety Certification

As of August 1st all coaches and judges must be USAG Safety Certified in order to renew their USAG Pro Membership. There are not many opportunities to take the course prior to the Future Stars season so do not wait too long if you need to renew.

A course will be given by Dave Moskovitz from 3:00-7:00 on Saturday, July 25th (day before coaches clinic) at San Mateo Gymnastics. You must register through USAGymnastics. There will be no on sight registration! Application forms can be found in the Technique Magazine.

Athlete registration

This is just a reminder that the USAG Athlete Membership expires August 1st. All athletes (and coaches) must have their USAG membership prior to participation in the State Future Stars program in September.

New Region 1 Chairman

Tim Klempnauer from Southern California was elected by the Regional Board to be the new Region 1 Chairman. Tim has been very active with USAG events for many years and is known for his organizational and leadership skills. He will do a great job as our Regional Chairman.

Next time you see Hiroshi Fujimoto, thank him for his years of service to our state and region. Hiroshi will remain active as co-meet director at next year's Region 1 Championships and as an advisor to the Regional Board.

Competition Season Highlights

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

This year 374 athletes participated at State Championships which was held at Technique Gymnastics. Thanks to the efforts on PJ Slater and Travis Stull, this Capital Cup format competition was well organized and well run in their state-of-the-art facility. We hope to hold State Championships at Technique in future years.

We also had a extremely productive General Membership meeting where a record number of proposals were pasted by a 2/3 quorum. Quality proposals were submitted by Dave Peterson, Eric Totman, and Vince Miller.

REGION 1 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Brock Anstine did a great job hosting this competition at ASU, Arizona. The high light of the weekend was the unprecedented sweep by Nor-Cal Class V - I 1st place team!!

J.O. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to the Region 1 Class II team members and their coaches for taking 1st place at JO National Championships held in Battle Creek, Michigan! Their team score was higher than the 1st place Class 1 team score. Keep up the hard work.

Regional Developmental Program Camp

There will be a training camp for all Class 1, 2, & 3 (12-13) gymnasts who placed in the top 10 at Region 1 Championships and are not attending a National Camp. The Camp will take place at Top Flight Gymnastics on July 10th-12th. Detailed information is included in this packet for coaches that have gymnasts that qualify to this camp.

NCBGA Coaches / Judges Clinic

There will be an informative coaches/judges clinic at San Mateo Gymnastics on July 26th. A Registration form with more detailed information can be found in this packet. There are two objectives that I am attempting to achieve in this clinic:

1. Get coaches and judges closer to being on the "same page". Through this clinic coaches and judges should be able better see mistakes that gymnasts make. Coaches and judges should also be able to identify outstanding technique when it is performed.

2. Have all coaches and judges learn from each other. We have many talented individuals out there and I want them to be heard. Instead of one clinician standing in front and lecturing to the group, I want everyone to share their thoughts, ideas, drills, motivational devises, etc. This event will be structured in a way that we will rotate through all the events with key individuals getting the ball rolling.

Each coach is invited to bring one gymnast to work with (class VI, V, IV & Future Star). This will be a clinic targeting coaches and judges education and not necessary the gymnast's education. We will video tape gymnasts performing skills to show technically good and poor performances in slow motion on a big screen TV when necessary. Lunch will be provided for those who pre-register. The cost is $10 for pre-registration and $15 for on site registration (Free for all "Coach of the year" recipients and gymnasts. You still must register). Please make checks payable to NCBGA.
