JUNE 1997 NEWS LETTER

STATE CHAIRMAN - ERIC TOTMAN Phone & FAX: 510-278-7713 E-Mail: totman@msn.com

Chairman's Corner

I hope that everyone had a successful season and that your summer is off to a great start. I would like to thank all of you for your unanimous support in voting me to this position and I hope to serve you well.

One of my goals, since becoming a NCBGA Board Member in 1987, has been to better inform the general membership by means of memos, calendars, forms, map directories, and most recently the NCBGA Constitution & By-laws. As State Chairman I am taking this task one step further by bring NCBGA into the world of high tech information services. I hope you can utilize and benefit from the services that I will be providing. The following is a list of current and future services that will be at your finger tips.

N.C.B.G.A. Message Center

You can now call and leave a message, or FAX me, 24 hours a day at 510-278-7713. You can also E-Mail me at: Totman@MSN.com

N.C.B.G.A. On Line

By the end of June you should be able to connect to the N.C.B.G.A. Home Page by typing our address (not yet completed), or through USA Gymnastics On Line. If you or your gym is not on the Internet, chances are that one of your gymnasts is. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

- N.C.B.G.A. Calendar of Events - Get an instant update of competitions, meetings, and events.

- Event Information - Receive, or place, detailed information on up coming competitions, meetings, and events.

- News Letters - Read updated news letters such as this one.

- NCBGA Board & General Membership Directories - Down load or copy this valuable information.

- NCBGA Constitution & By-Laws - Review update information on NCBGA.

- Classified Section - Receive, or place, advertisements on gyms looking for coaches, coaches looking for jobs, equipment for sale, equipment wanted, products for sale, etc.

- Gymnast & Coach Biographies - Color pictures and information about gymnasts and coaches with outstanding accomplishments. As you can see, the potential is only as limited as the imagination. I hope to soon be able to offer services over the Internet such as NCBGA Club and Athlete Membership Registration, NCBGA Competition Registration, and Invitational Registration. Sending me your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations also to those hard working coaches who developed the best of the best@ gymnasts this past year. The Compulsory Coach of the Year@ award goes to Oleg Ibiabouline, the Modified Optional Coach of the Year@ goes to Steve Edwards, and the Optional Coach of the Year@ goes to Greg Corsiglia.

The Service Award was duly awarded to Hiroshi Fujimoto this year for his long term contributions to our organization. Also a special recognized award was given to Past State Chairman Greg Corsiglia and Past Treasurer Marcia Corsiglia. Their efforts and contributions have been immense over the past years and greatly appreciated by all.

 Future Stars

If you were not involved in the Future Stars program last year, now is the time to start developing a plan to participate this year. This program is a great development tool for those of you who believe in peeking@ your gymnasts twice per year. Be sure to check the N.C.B.G.A. Calendar for dates.

This year, a twelve year old age group has been added at the national level (information enclosed). At the State and Regional level we would like to take that concept one step further by adding on a developmental 8-9 age group that would perform a modified routine from the 10-12 age group routine. Since the program is a good developmental tool, we are also considering out of age@ groups. What do you think? The whole idea is in the planning stages so if you want to have some input, we welcome your ideas. Send your ideas to Eric Totman or Hiroshi Fujimoto.
