The 2018 Youth Olympic Games will be held October 6 to 18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

One male athlete will be chosen to represent the United States. One coach will also be chosen for the Youth Olympic Games. The athlete and coach will be selected from a pool of individuals who meet the participant criteria as noted in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games Selection Procedures and who have also pre-registered with the USOC.

The selection procedures for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games can be found at:

ATHLETES: https://usagym.org/PDFs/Pressbox/Selection%20Procedures/m_18yog.pdf

STAFF/COACH: https://usagym.org/PDFs/Pressbox/Selection%20Procedures/18yog_staff.pdf

Athletes and coaches selected for the Youth Olympic Games are required to stay for entire Youth Olympic Games regardless of the actual competition schedule for men’s gymnastics. The USOC defines the Period of Stay as the period from the Opening Ceremony until the Closing Ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games. For the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, the duration is from October 6 to October 18, 2018.

Athletes and coaches who wish to be considered for selection to the Youth Olympic Games and who meet the criteria noted in the Youth Olympic Games selection procedures must preregister with the USOC.

In order to be considered for selection to the YOG you must send your name, one good email address, headshot (50kb or larger), and a copy of your passport (.jpg format only), to Lisa Mendel at lmendel@usagym.org no later than May 1, 2018.  The email address will be sent to the USOC to trigger an invitation to be emailed to you to complete the registration process.  Your passport cannot expire before April 7, 2019.

You will receive an invitation from the USOC to complete the online YOG registration process. USOC registration must be completed no later than May 10, 2018 to be eligible for selection the YOG.  Please note that this is a USOC function.  If someone does not complete this process by May 10, there is no way of completing it for you and you will not be in consideration for the YOG.  It is highly recommended that you complete this process as soon as possible and not wait until May 10.  If you have technical difficulties, contact Lisa Mendel immediately.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact either me or Lisa Mendel.

First off the official Championships site is:

Dear Region 1 Participants:

On Saturday and Sunday, in the area of our competition venue, there will also be both a big concert and an “Inflatable Run”. SO..  there will be some road closures and variations in inbound traffic. Attached here is a map showing routes to get to the gymnastics meet.  Please forward this very important info out to all you know are coming so they are aware there will be some traffic delays and detours.  This will be for both Saturday & Sunday.  Be sure to plan to arrive early due to potential traffic delays.

Essentially you can get to Rawhide from I-10 off Wild Horse Pass Blvd, Pecos or the 347 and follow any of those three RED lines marked for INBOUND traffic.  You will circle around a little but just follow the GYMNASTICS signs.

Normal price is $10 per car.  You will pay for parking  where the star on the map is marked at the intersection of 48th Street & Wild Horse Pass Road and then proceed to park just South and next to the Gymnastics Event Center.  A map will also be posted on the website.

We expect to have the equipment up and ready for the Wednesday 4 PM to 8 PM open training for Levels 7 thru 10 & JD ONLY, and only for gymnasts with coaches present.

There are a couple of openings at the site and will be available for additional training time for gymnasts needing it. Only about 1 hour each night. No gymnasts will be allowed to use the equipment without a coach present.

The times that the warm-up gym will be available are as follows:

On Thursday 4/5, after Session 3,  Flight B leaves the warm-up gym to compete the 12th rotation (approximately 9:30PM).  The warm-up gym will be open (only after the Flight B warm-up is complete) for additional training until the Session 3 award ceremony is complete (approx 10:30).

On Friday 4/6, after Session 6, Flight B leaves the warm-up gym to compete the 12th rotation (approximately 9:15 PM).  The warm-up gym will be open (only after the Flight B warm-up is complete) for additional training until the Session 6 award ceremony is complete (approx 10:15).

On Saturday 4/7, after Session 9, Flight B leaves the warm-up gym to compete the 12th rotation (approximately 7:30PM).  The warm-up gym will be open (only after the Flight B warm-up is complete) for additional training until the Session 9 award ceremony is complete. (Approx 8:20)
