Open Letter…

January 23rd, 2018 by olssonf No comments »
To all of our amazing professionals:
This is a letter from Jay Barrows to the coaches of Maryland. He has eloquently stated how I, and most others, feel in this time….
Quote
—–
Our sport is going through a rough time right now.  The actions, or inactions, of a few at the top have given the entire organization a black eye, and in some cases have disgusted us and shaken us to our core. Do not let this discourage you from what you do. There are tens of thousands of professionals in our organization who are good people, and are doing this for the right reasons. We do not coach, or judge, for money or medals. We do it to help kids. We do it for the smile on a child’s face when they get a new trick, whether it is a Level 10 standing up a double back, a Level 4 making a kip, or an XCel making a cartwheel on beam. We do it to make each day that they are with us a better day than if they weren’t. We do it to make them stronger, healthier, and more confident in themselves. We do this to help them become better people. And we do it for our love of the sport. I feel privileged to have gotten to known you all, as fantastic ambassadors for doing our sport the right way, and commend you for your work for the athletes.
~ Jay Barrows
Thank you Jay for the words and Thank you Coaches, Judges, parents and athletes -past and present- for your dedication, love and support of this amazing sport.

USAGymnastics Updates:

January 23rd, 2018 by olssonf No comments »

Good morning.

I would like to send out some reminders and updates that you will find very helpful as we approach Championship season:

Academic All-American Recognition Award Application

Please highlight the 2018 Academic All-American Award on your website with a link to the information.  Also, shoot out an email to your coaches asking them to get with their high school athletes to see if they are eligible to apply for recognition.  Since making the Academic All-American Recognition Award application an online submission, it has been a great success.  In 2017, we had over 500 submissions – a record!  Here is the link:  https://usagym.org/pages/men/pages/academic_allamerican.html.  Note that the deadline for submission is February 15, so getting the information out to the community is time sensitive.

State Championships High School Results

Do not forget to email me the high school results from your State Championships for posting.  The High School Manual, https://usagym.org/PDFs/Men/MemUpdates/HSManual.pdf, covers all aspects of capturing and reporting High School results within your USA Gymnastics State Championships, but should you have any questions regarding the High School Program, please contact Dennis.

Apparel Update

In a recent turn of events, USA Gymnastics no longer has a relationship with Under Armour. We are very excited about the interest among other reputable apparel partners to sponsor our National Governing Body. However, in the interim, please follow the below guidelines to ensure your State/Region is in compliance with the current National Office practices:

State and Regional Apparel Guidelines – updated January 19, 2018 & in effect until further notice from USA Gymnastics.

  • NON-COMPETITIVE APPAREL OPTIONS:
    • Knowing that many of you have a significant amount of Under Armor(UA) branded apparel from the past couple of years, for the remaining competitive season, it is okay to continue to wear UA branded items.
    • As States and Regions are placing apparel orders for next season (2018-2019):
      • First option would be to choose our very valued and important National Partner, GK.
      • The second option at this time is to choose unbranded apparel.
    • Once a new apparel partner is named, the above guidelines will change, and we will communicate those guidelines as soon as possible.
  • COMPETITIVE APPAREL OPTIONS:
    • There is no significant change in guidelines for competitive apparel.
    • GK apparel
    • non-branded apparel

If you have any further questions regarding apparel or any sponsorship questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Adrienne Evans, Marketing Manager, at aevans@usagym.org or (317) 829-5465.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact anyone on the Men’s Staff.

Have a wonderful day!

USA Gymnastics statement regarding the National Team Training Center

January 19th, 2018 by olssonf No comments »

Public Announcement made by Kerry Perry, president and CEO.

“USA Gymnastics has terminated its agreement with the Karolyi Ranch in Huntsville, Texas. It will no longer serve as the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center.

“It has been my intent to terminate this agreement since I began as president and CEO in December. Our most important priority is our athletes, and their training environment must reflect this. We are committed to a culture that empowers and supports our athletes.

“We have cancelled next week’s training camp for the U.S. Women’s National Team. We are exploring alternative sites to host training activities and camps until a permanent location is determined. We thank all those in the gymnastics community assisting in these efforts.”
